Bishop's Bio
Bishop Jerry L. Maiden, Sr. is the pastor of The Church of the Living God, P.G.T. in Shreveport, Louisiana. He has served diligently as a preacher, teacher, evangelist and workshop facilitator since his appointment in 1986. Bishop Maiden has initiated programs to foster church growth, community outreach and development and interdenominational cooperation throughout northern Louisiana and beyond.

The Shreveport church’s Health and Wellness Ministry offers free blood pressure and glucose screenings to church members as well as to unaffiliated community residents who might not otherwise have access to affordable healthcare resources. The program is run by professional medical staff and operates under strict HIPAA guidelines. Each April, the Health and Wellness Ministry also sponsors the Johnetta C. Maiden Walk-A-Thon, a health awareness fundraiser named in honor of his beloved late wife, Missionary Johnetta Capers Maiden. Contributions benefit the American Heart Association and the church’s scholarship fund.

Bishop Maiden also established the Church of the Living God Tutorial Program to provide academic support to students at all levels throughout the community. In addition, Bishop Maiden is a former president of the Greater Shreveport Ministerial Alliance and served as treasurer of The Gathering of Eagles ministers’ alliance. He served as a charter member of the Shreveport Police Pastor Program, a community project aimed at strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the community. Bishop Maiden is a former advisory board member for Windsor Hospital, a nursing and rehabilitation facility established by African Americans prior to the existence of integrated health care institutions.

Bishop Maiden worked as an adjunct assistant professor for four years at the Shreveport campus of the United Theological Seminary and Bible College. He returns from time to time as a guest lecturer or commencement speaker. He earned a Bachelor of Theology degree from the school in 1990 and a Master of Theology degree in 1992. He also holds an A.B.A. degree in accounting from Delta Business College.

He served his denomination as Overseer, Director of Christian Education and Diocesan Bishop from 1990 to 2002.

In October of 2002 at the setting of the National Assembly, Bishop Maiden was elected to serve as National President of The Church of the Living God, P.G.T. (Pillar & Ground of the Truth) Inc. He was elected to a second term in 2006 at Atlanta, Georgia, a third in 2010 at Tampa Bay, Florida. He is now serving his fourth term as of the 2014 Holy Convocation in Skokie, Illinois.

Bishop Jerry L. Maiden is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, but now resides in Bossier City, Louisiana. Bishop Maiden is married to Linda Faye Maiden; they have a blended family of six children and eight grandchildren.
